| In their latest book, The Execution Premium. Linking strategy to Operations for Competitive Advantage, Drs. Norton and Kaplan provide a comprehensive six stage management model designed to address one of management’s greatest challenges: how to link strategy formulation and planning, with operational execution. The model incorporates elements from the Balanced Scorecard and strategy map principles and practices. It is a practical approach that enables organisations to plan, execute, monitor, test and adapt their strategy assumptions in order to manage execution effectively.
The Execution Premium is based on synthesis of groundbreaking concepts and case studies from Strategy Execution Hall of Fame winners. It underscores how organisations using a formal strategy execution management system as part of their regular business process, consistently outperform their peers. It also shows how companies can establish strong linkages between strategy and operations so that employee’s everyday operational activities support strategic objectives. The model also introduces a new framework for management review meetings that clearly separates the operational review meetings, which solve short–term problems and monitor the improvement of key operational processes, from the meetings that review and improve strategy execution.
In this one day Forum, Dr. Norton describes how organisations have used the Balanced Scorecard Strategy Management System to achieve outstanding results.
